 THE FARMSTEAD

This cabin, located directly behind the main building of the Museum, is a reproduction of the cabin that Benjamin Banneker would have lived in. This structure, opened in 2009, was constructed to be historically accurate in regards to the 18th century, with very few modern characteristics.  This cabin "will help us better appreciate the context of Banneker's life and to see how a great mind lived and worked," said County Executive James T. Smith JR.," (Mary Gail Hare, The Baltimore Sunat the time of opening, and is a great space for kids and adults alike to conceptualize Banneker's living quarters. The cabin features one main room with a combined bed, kitchen space, hearth, and a replica of the table that Benjamin would have used. There is an adjacent garden featuring a variety of herbs and other plants. There is a second, fully enclosed garden nearby that contains vegetables, herbs, and other plants.
